Misconception: Women Shouldn’t Weight Train Because They Will Bulk Up!

October 01, 2014

WRONG! Ladies this is just NOT true for so many reasons.

It is a shame that so many women I come across think they will “bulk up” and look like men if they weight train. Very few women have the genetic endowment to develop a large and defined masculine body. Sure, we all come in different shapes and sizes, I appreciate that, but unless you are taking anabolic steroids (synthetic testosterone) along with other performance enhancing drugs you will not achieve that level of masculinity from your weight training.

Fact, women produce about one tenth of the amount of testosterone that is produced by the body of a “normal” man. It is because of this that it is impossible for women to gain huge amounts of muscle mass by doing some weight training. Instead by incorporating weight training into your fitness regime you will lose fat, increase in strength and bone density all of which can prevent the onset of osteoporosis and other age and lifestyle related problems like diabetes. Women who conduct weight training along with other cardiovascular activity generally achieve a firm, fit and cellulite-free looking body. Isn’t this what we all want to have?
